The accidental discovery that will make history...
NatureFX was researched & formulated by South African Pharmacist and expert Formulator Darryl Segal. In these formulations he uses a unique herbal infusion of curative African botanicals, which his father, Lou Segal, also a formulator and pharmacist, discovered during a safari in southeast Africa.
It all began in Cape Town, South Africa, where the family lived and Lou Segal owned a number of successful pharmacies. Lou Segal was a highly qualified pharmacist and apothecary. Classically trained in South Africa in processes of plant and herb extraction he was an expert in formulating products tailored to the specific ailments of his clientele. In the sixties many of Lou's clients were from the poor neighbouring districts where ancient tribal beliefs held root then as they still do to this day. Many of native clients presented ailments caused by the evil spirits in which they firmly believed and which terrified them. They looked to Lou Segal to mitigate their symptoms and alleviate them of their haunting spirits.
Intrigued by their belief systems Lou set out to learn more about them by going on an exploratory safari. That one African safari four decades ago would change the course of Lou's business career and his life completely. Part of the safari was a tour of the different tribes of the region. Each tribe would perform a different ritual to solve their biggest problem in life, evil spirits.
Lou noticed an odd phenomenon once he visited the tribes; one particular tribe was significantly different. They had incredibly thick, full looking hair and skin that was smooth and young looking. This was extraordinary in the harsh arid environment they lived in. The elders who were in their 60's looked like they were 40! The other tribes, some just a mile or two away, had thin looking hair and extremely aged sun damaged skin. On further investigation, and through translated conversation with the chief of this incredible tribe, Lou found out that this particular tribe had a very unique "Moon" ritual.
The tribe would gather plants, roots, leaves, and tree bark which they then mixed into a paste. In the evening they would then apply it to their face and head and point their heads to the moon. In this way they believed the evil spirits were being released. The chief walked Lou through the process they used taking the roots and leaves, among other things, and turning them into a thick paste that they would then use in their rituals unaware that in all likelihood this was the cause of their healthy appearance. Lou left with a sample of this precious mixture as a gift from the tribal elders.
Little did the tribe know that they were giving themselves the most natural and incredibly potent beauty treatment available!
Lou took the sample back to his laboratory in Cape Town and started the arduous task of analyzing the components and through several years of trial and error testing and retesting managed to determine the correct processes for extracting the active components unharmed and incorporating them into safe and effective products. After a number of formulation changes people all over South Africa started seeing results and these products became a major success story in the country.
One of the plants in this mixture was Rooibos (pronounced "roy-boss"), also known as African Red Bush. It was found to be extremely rich in antioxidants, due to the harsh environment it grows in, with levels probably higher then any other plant known! 37 powerful antioxidants in all! The other special plant ingredient in the original tribal formula was Shea Butter, a potent moisturizer.
Lou Segal is still a household name in South Africa. Responsible for what to this day remain some of the most popular brands. He left South Africa 15 years ago along with so many at the height of the political unrest in an effort to keep his family safe, leaving with only his vast knowledge of tribal medicines and his lifetime of product formulations.
